Viva Home will be the first of its kind in the country when it opens its doors for business in early 2011. Launched to retailers today, Viva Home is a new, one-stop centre for home products and related services, complemented by a range of F& B, leisure and entertainment outlets as well as a hypermarket.
Located along Jalan Loke Yew, Viva Home is a redevelopment of an existing building carried out by Viva Mall Sdn Bhd, a company under the Kha Seng Corporation Sdn Bhd umbrella, a niche commercial property developer with successful projects such as Central Market and Kenanga Wholesale City in its portfolio.
Says Mr. Bernard Bong, Managing Director of Viva Mall Sdn Bhd, “Viva Home is our latest venture after Central Market and Kenanga Wholesale City and it further cements our commitment to developing innovative, retail properties in the Klang Valley. We ventured in after extensive research and market survey where we discovered an opportunity in the home furniture and furnishing sector for a destination which provides a comprehensive offer for home shopping. With people constantly upgrading, replenishing, renovating, revamping and re-doing their homes, there was no one place they could go to where they could find everything they needed under one roof.”

At the launch, a symbolic signing ceremony was held between Viva Home, MBO Cinema (9 screens), ICT Gadgets (50,000 square feet) and Old Town Kopitiam (10,000 square feet). Viva Home also confirmed that a major hypermarket operator has signed on as an anchor tenant. The name will be announced upon obtaining the required trade licences.
Says Ungku Suseelawati Omar, Regional Head of Retail, Southeast Asia, of DTZ, the Exclusive Leasing Agent for the Viva Home project, “Some of Viva Home’s unique selling points are: 1) A solid and complete homes offer which includes furniture, furnishing, deco as well as home improvement services, 2) Complementary retails such as a variety of F&B, leisure and entertainment, ICT and a hypermarket, 3) An exhibition hall to showcase the latest home products and other related events, 4) Clear merchandising zoning to ensure identifiable retail zones and concepts to make shopping a pleasurable experience, 5) A comfortable shopping ambience with shopper-focused amenities such as pick-up and drop-off areas, mother’s room and good car parking.”
Refurbishment work has already begun and when completed, Viva Home will offer a net lettable area of 660,000 square feet for lease. Typical lot sizes range from 300 to 2,000 square feet. Mini anchors range up to 15,000 square feet.
Says Martin Haeger, Director of HL Design Group, Architectural and Interior Design consultants of the project, “The complete refurbishment includes the planning and redesign of the mall façade, circulation, the creation of a new retail floor featuring a prominent mall entrance and prime retail lots, the upgrading of all amenities and parking facilities. Externally, egress and ingress is enhanced with dedicated access for shoppers from both KL as well as Cheras. A new pedestrian bridge from Viva Home to the Miharja LRT station is also a part of this upgrade initiative.” Besides the retail mall, Phase 2 of the mixed development will feature a boutique business-class hotel above the retail mall. Construction of Phase 2 is due to begin soon in 2010.
To achieve this, Viva Home has invested a total of RM200million in the project.
When completed, it is envisioned that the Viva Home mixed development will pave the way to rejuvenating the Jalan Loke Yew area.
